Alexandru Buzea – Characters designer and animator

Alexandru (Ducu) Buzea, the characters designer “Mercy Street”, responsible for 50% of the animation feature film, concept art, setsand layout setup, has an experience of over 20 years in the animation field. Along with his brother Ştefan Buzea, the film’s director, he was raised in one of the most famous family in the animation industry in Romania. Their parents created the very well-known TV series “Miaunel and Balanel” and were the first film directors who won the Grand Prize for the best animation feature film at Karlovy Vary Film Festival for “Frânele nu fac minuni (Brakes don’t work wonders)” and “Vacanţă la tata (Holyday at Daddy’s)”.
Alexandru (Ducu) graduated from “Nicolae Tonitza” School of Fine Arts and the University of Fine Arts, Fine and Decorative Arts profile, but the power of family example turned to animation. With an experience of 20 years in the animation field gained by working as an animator at various animation studios, he developed skills covering hand drawing, 2D/3D and experimental animation. As a member of a team or on his own, he coordinated a wide range of projects of different sizes, from the art concept to the final stage.
In the period 2003-2010, as Art Director for Vast Animation, he designed and developed dozens of animated commercials, TV shows generics, music videos for local artists and animation series.
His experience spans over 12 years in the field of computer-aided design, with extensive knowledge of the both 2D and 3D animation software (Adobe Flash, Anime Studio, Toom Boom, Toonz, Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, Corel Draw, Premiere), but also of image editing and rendering software (Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max).
Currently, he is the manager of Keyframe Animation Production, a company that deals with the realization of different production types in the field of animation, and believes that “considering the experience acquired, my skills to date qualify me for any challenge in the field of animation.
